[05 Dec 2008|11:48am]
I return to my long lost Livejournal after 2 glorious weeks. I have been up to so much!

The first week was nothing but excellent social affairs: Me n' Lillifloss went dancing twice, firstly to the 80s/90s night, which was vastly, VASTLY superior to the same night we attended a while ago- we didn't need to leave the 80s room for more than a few minutes, since the 90s room was always failing and smelling like hot dogs despite having Bez as a special guest, but luckily in contrast the 80s room had the best DJ at the start of the night, and a pretty good one for later on. The amazing DJ played DIVINE! As well as the Vapours, Alice Cooper, the Cure, the B52s, loads of others, and when I requested Stand and Deliver, she played it about three songs later! And since everyone was interested in Bez, there was always lots of space to flail around. The second time was to the Gloom, which was just an average Gloom, but that's always good anyway.

We also went to Ikea, and for me it was only the second time going there, but I bet it would still be a massive treat no matter what. Me and Lillian got an amazing vanity mirror with lace around it that we're goung to share by hanging it where our rooms interject, some beautiful glasses with penguins and mushrooms and elephants, some lovely heart shaped Christmas baubles, I got practical stuff that's boring to write about and a lot of food from
the supermarket bit. The best cheese! And the most amazing cake and coconut chocolate cream things that are vanishing fast. So much for my plans of being a slightly less vast pie-ling.

Also, much shopping in the huge Topshop. I bought a lovely emerald green dress that was too big for me with a broken zip, but I should be fixing it to fit me today. It's very elegant for my standards but still fun and bright. And I got a shiny patent bag in the shape of an apple to match it :D

And we went to PINKLES!!! One day I'll write a detailed account about what makes Pinkles so great, because I know so many people on my friends list would really like it, but for now all I'll say is it's funny and magical and charming, with the most beautiful puppets ever. I'm in love with the three animals so much: Spot the dog who is a lovely daft dalmatianey thing that leaps wonderfully, Wallace the lion who is triangular with a ringletty mane and a fantastic gaping mouth, and Twinkle-Toes the beautiful flirtatious horse. I can't describe them at all, so I'll try to find photos. I would have taken some last time but I didn't want to blind Isobel the puppet mistress, especially since we were all blowing bubbles during the magic bits and many were flying into her face.

I'm meant to be making a dress so I can wear it to Devant next week, but it's so difficult to sew right now. D: And I'm not looking forward to trailing down the fabric shop for something that is not pretty fashion fabric, but boring underskirt fabric at all. Maybe I'll see something I really like to take the sting away.

Anyway, all that stuff I just wrote? I have pictures from all of it, yet I am busy. I'll try to get them up soon! <3

I have come online solely to document what an enormous superdork I am:

I have just spent 10 minutes carefully inserting dressmaking pins through one layer of skin on the pad of each of my fingers and thumbs, until I had a set of pin-claws that I could drum on different surfaces for satisfying noises/tactile weirdness. Like a sort of rubbishy Catwoman using my own skin instead of PVC gloves.

And yes, I do have something better to do!

Its a Nirish Thing [23 Nov 2008|05:11pm]
Mum: *rummaging in cupboard, suspecting she has run out of tinfoil* Have you seen the tinfoil about?
Me: Couldn't tell you mum, I haven't needed to use it for ages.
Mum: *finds small strip of foil* Ah, there's a wee drop left.

I just like how she quantifies tinfoil in drops! :D

SCREENWIPE GOOD.

Except its made me want to watch Britannia High, which looks like a bad cross between High School Musical and Fame, but for Britishers. I should be weeding bad TV out of my lifestyle now that there are so many good shows on, but the 80s chewing gum ad boy has drawn me in with his dyslexia song and dance D:

Today I made a pecan pie, which turned out very well, which is both good and bad because who bakes themselves a pie to have on their own anyway? I am more caterpillar than girl. Maybe I'll be good and take some down to my granny tomorrow.

All but one of my sewing machine bobbins have either been broken or lost now, and since I can't seem to find any that fit my stupid machine, I just have to pray my remaining one lasts me the week. I really regret getting an Elna when I look back on it- In itself it's a really great machine, I never have any technical trouble with it, and it sews very well, but it's horrible to find parts for it, and the compatible feet for it are pretty useless to me. When I have some more money, I'll have to get a Janome that's pretty much the same standard of machine, but has a lot more versatility. Blahblahblahsewing. I'm thrilling.

On a cuter note!

Perry left one of his dog treats on my pillow, like a hotel mint. He's the best creature in the world *_*

Halloween! [01 Nov 2008|07:43pm]
Hello! I'm off to Ireland (again!) at the crack of dawn tomorrow to look after the family dogs while my parents go to America, because I'm still footloose and fancy free. Halloween was a blast! It turns out my costume's hat never arrived, so I had to cobble together a whole new one from the dress I had already made and a few other bits. It was a shame that I had bought so much stuff and ended up not wearing it, but luckily they're all things that would have worked its way into my everyday wardrobe sooner or later, and I can still dress up as I wanted when my hat gets here. And I ended up being something I wouldn't have thought of but ended up really liking. :D

Intended Costume: Lola-Lola from "The Blue Angel". (Hence the flippy-up slutty dress I was determined to use instead of sewing something new and potentially bad looking)
Panicky Last Minute Costume: A bluebottle/fly!

Suits me in ways I never expected!

More from our Halloween get-together... )

Wow, I have just realised its been ages since I last updated. So much has happened! I've been out and about to the Kareoke Circus, saw the Sawchestra play a soundtrack to A Trip to the Moon, went on an urban picnic/dance-extravaganza with MARRRVELLOUS Monkey (an urban picnic involves sitting in an alley in Angel at night with some nice food and booze until its time to go to the club- this tramplike activity is classied up with hoummous, so it's okay!), been actually doing some art instead of just thinking about it, sighing over my crush, basking in Lillian's wonderfulness, drafting/tracing patterns to make some nice new clothes with, and been working on my costume for Halloween. So far, it has been a month of super-win. :D

HOWEVER...

A single yet essential piece of my costume hasn't arrived in the post yet, which is causing me a lot more panic than it should, because nobody should take poncing around in a costume this seriously. I'm furious though because it's the most expensive bit, and I bought it on October 6th, so it should have come a lot earlier than it has. So integral is it's role in who I'm being that should it not arrive I have to scrap what I was planning all these weeks and just sew a super quick costume on the trot! I am compelled to do this because it would pain me to be forced to wear a half hearted crappy costume for Halloween. It just isn't me. I spit on your tinsel wigs.

I have so many photos and things to update with but there is a lot of sewing/making/buying to be done, so maybe sometime soon eh? :D

Earlier when Lillian and I were watching Neighbours a man came to our door to try and sell us doors and blinds. When I answered it, he asked me "Are your parents at home?" and then gave me a leaflet to "pass onto my parents". WHAT?? Either I look like a small child, or some creepy backwards shut-in girl. Or possibly both.

Brighton 2- Electric Boogaloo [09 Oct 2008|02:09am]
[ mood | sleepy ]

Yesterday we had another trip to Brighton for shopping and fun and Pinkle's Puppet Circus, and it turned out spectacularly. And I took photos because I'm starting to really like picture posts, and now when I go somewhere I think to myself: "guh-huhuh, I can't wait to post this to my Livejournal!"

It's keeping thoughts like that to myself that makes me still get invited to places :D

No thumbnail for you because my editing stuff is all on my laptop and I can't be bothered going upstairs. I'm too sleepy.

It's Sailor girl Lillian!

8 Things [24 Sep 2008|09:45pm]
[ mood | groggy ]

This is from [info]missalphabet :D I can't decide who to tag to do this, so tag yourselves!

1. I am distantly related to Donald Crowhurst, of going mental on a boat fame. He looks very much like my paternal grandfather as a young man.

2. If you are reasonably good friends with me, there is a good chance that you will have participated in an eating contest with me. This is something that always seems to happen, not something that I initiate on purpose.

3. I have had a cocktail named after me- The Clairefaerie, which is Lillian's invention. Its Framboise (the raspberry liqueur), vodka, cranberry juice and lemonade. Try it! I'm delicious!

4. Preferring Whitney Houston's version of "I Will Always Love You" over Dolly Parton's will cause me to reassess my friendship with you.

5. The meanest thing I ever did was in Playschool when I was painting with my then best friend. I had decided to paint a giraffe, and she liked the idea and started painting one too. I was furious that she had copied me! So when she went to change her water, I took some red paint and covered her giraffe with it. On her return, I told her the giraffe had died. The shame!!

6. It was 2006 before I got my first (and latest) mobile phone. I still don't like them.

7. I know a certain thing about Gary Numan that I'm afraid of saying lest he find out and file a libel case against me.

8. I can make it all the way through "The Lexicon of Love" without disappointing my imaginary audience.

It's mid September and already I am obsessing over my Halloween costume. Claire, you mecha-loser! I have some key bits purchased now and the actual sewing part won't be too difficult, all I really need to worry about is not looking completely distressing in said rig-out. It's just as well because I have many other sneaky goings on afoot and I need more time to devote to them, as well as just every day sewing for new outfits. I found amazing dinosaur fabric on eBay, but of course, they only ship to America, and of course, they ignored my message asking them if I paid extra would they send it to the UK. The best part about the dinosaurs is that they all look really shocked, like someone has told them surprising news, and the art style is a bit like the pixel art from Move Your Feet, so I need to get it somehow!

I still haven't uploaded any of my photos or caught up with you guys because I'm scatterbrained and should be getting a lot more important stuff done in theory. I'll sort it out! <3

Ahaaa, what a fun week! Lots of wonderful stuff happened. My camera is crammed to the gizzard with photos to upload, but this video is coming first because it's so extraordinary (and because it took ages to upload so I want to post it right away to forget my frustration at it). It's from last night. After Tess of the D'urbervilles, Lillian ran into the most amazingly giant spider either of us had ever seen on the stairs. I'm surprised we didn't actually hear him pattering round because of the massiveness!

I have a big phobia of spiders so excuse my nervous babbling. By my standards I was doing well being so close to Monstro :P

Photos from last week soonish probably.

Brighton [05 Sep 2008|10:34am]
On Tuesday I went to Brighton for the very first time with Lillian and Xenia, who showed me loads of good places. It was the most fun day out in ages! I can't wait to go back.

I have many a photo from my trip! )

Trippy dream [02 Sep 2008|10:02am]
I don't usually write my dreams down because frankly, I am far too lazy to do so, but I need to get this one out before I forget its freakiness. Okay!

Basically, Lillian was showing me where more things were so I could do chores, and then she said it was time to show me the other bits of the house, and it turns out there was a whole lot of secret passageways and a whole other floor under the house which was used to keep pets that were really antisocial and wanted to live there secretly.

There were amazing cats, one was a huge, skinny black tomcat who had ears that had frond type things, like a Papillion dog. Another was the filthiest cat I had ever seen in my life, apparently she got very violent if anyone tried to clean her, so they had left her be to get disgusting. She was huge and tabby and white, and actually had clods of earth stuck on her paws and things living in her fur. She had what looked like dismembered racoon tail on her back. She constantly looked furious and had to be let out for a few hours each night to run "errands". As well as the roadkill looking thing she carried around, she also carried two amazing looking kittens who clung to her like baby possums. One was a little version of her, and the other was this really gorgeous unnaturally blue colour with black stripes. I wanted to steal her so badly! It was my job to let Filth Cat out at night and help clean out and feed the other animals. An ostrich was there, and I kept getting really annoyed at a young man who kept coming round to court her. I think he was a bit in love with her, he kept bringing her gifts and kissing her beak and caressing her feathers amourously. He would try to get off with her when my back was turned. There were also a few really huge pigs. I was delighted.

Then after I had finished looking after the animals, I got a job looking after this strange country club thing my family somehow owned when a good deal of the staff went away. It was a strange mix of looking like a nice hotel with marble floors, generic artwork on the walls, etc. to being the tackiest place on earth. There were chairs meant to look like huge flowers on brass stems but the petals were all made from cushions, and when you sat in one the flower sort of half ate you. For some reason the floors were all very uneven to the point of undulating like a helter skelter. You could clean them by sitting on a tray and surfing around the hallways, where you could get to rollercoaster speed.

All the time I was caretaking, loads of guests were staying there, throwing parties and drinking at the enormous bar. They were all ridiculously posh and kept saying unkind things about my deportment and appearance. I saw Dolly Parton in the crowd and was so happy because I was sure she'd be friendlier, so I came up to her and told her how amazing I thought she was and how I had made a pair of earrings like hers once (they were huge red lips covered in glitter) but she just stared at me like I was mental, and I felt all rejected. Then I woke up. :P

Ahh! A parakeet just flew into the garden! And it is noisy.

Home [31 Aug 2008|12:28pm]
I'm back in London now, after a pleasant stay with the dogs (although Benny stayed all but one day with my granny, who can't really look after a dog full time but loves looking after him since he's a comically overstuffed dog toy who doesn't like to do anything but sleep and eat) and it would have been very lonely without Perry. I didn't have Internet so I mostly sewed dresses, rolled around in the lawn with woolhead and ate triple tier cheese toasties while watching 30 Rock. I missed here so much though, I really feel like I've come home.

Getting back was hell though, everything went smoothly until the Stansted Express- We were halfway there when the train stopped because someone had been killed on the track, so the entire train had to wait for a replacement bus service. I spent the next 2 hours hating people with such vitriol! While I was waiting for the bus I seemed to be standing in some sort of Twat Convention where everyone was making jokes about the person getting killed, or bitching about how that inconvenienced them. And the rudeness! Sometimes I hate having basic manners so ingrained that I can't break them, it just gives rude people permission to trample all over me because I won't be able to tell them to stop being such a jerk. Grown men were basically throwing kids and women aside to get on the bus first, I lingered at the back of the crowd so I wouldn't get tackled, and ended up going to the next station up as quickly as anyone else had done. Haha, I've won!

When I got back I was exhausted since my flight was so early and my schedule was delayed by about 2 hours, but I still managed to glom Lillian for a while. Then at about 4 I needed to sleep and didn't get up until 8 in the morning today. I wanted to go dancing last night, but my stupid weaklingliness wouldn't allow it. Bah. This was a boring entry, you guys!

Baking glamour! [22 Aug 2008|04:59am]

Here are some photos I took of [info]fiddle_faddle today, baking a marble cake.
More! )
That was fun! Leaving today for a week, and I'm not sure if I'll be online until I get back or not, so I might be a bit slow catching up still. Pray I don't have internet so I won't whine constantly about how much I miss Lillian. :P

Epic picture post! [21 Aug 2008|11:25am]
[ mood | thirsty ]

Getting around to posting all the pictures before I go on my trip. Photos from earlier than a few months ago in my journal, what witchcraft is this?? I'm sort of proud of myself because I don't take enough photos usually, but this set documents what I've been up to quite well, if you edit out all the slobbing around, fat kid exploits and all the clinging that goes on.

Like 74 pictures, srsly. )

Hello!!

I'm now a resident of leafy, verdant Wimbledon. I've hardly been online at all because I've been catching up with Lillian, but I have been taking lots of photos of my adventures! Hopefully I can post them later today. I go back to Ireland on Friday to dogsit for a week, and will return with a further suitcase of stuff. My room is in the attic and I'm so happy there, the cats enjoy creeping up of a morning and spreading out over my legs. I feel very at home already, but that didn't surprise me because even when I was just a guest I felt the same kind of contentment. Lots of exciting things are coming up! I'm feeling quite practical today too, so I might actually do something instead of eating too many raspberries and watching the Waterbabies.

Also, I love Wimbledon because the youths are SO unintimidating compared to the rest of the world, despite their best efforts to be rude and thuggish. It's hard to look tough when your clarinet lesson is in 15 minutes.
